This is an action-filled THRILLER. It reminded me of the movie Hard Rain with Christian Slater. This is not a ghost story even though it flirted with some twists, especially with the Preacher, Stephen, hearing God's word and the little girl he kind of brainwashed, for lack of a better word. All these people are interested in the town's history and its stories of gold hidden in the mountain. The pacing is relentless until pg 260? I don't know if I started paying more attention or if I was just being critical, but I was noticing the overuse of fragment sentences and some typos.
Abigail, one of the main characters, made it through a lot She was a real trooper.
When a certain character was coming down the mountain to the bronco, the story really should have been wrapped up nicely instead of going on another 60 pages which tried to stretch the story even more, but really, it was already done to me. This read left me exhausted. Mixed feelings with this one. Gonna sleep on it and rate later. Great writing. The story just needed to be tightened up a bit.
